What are veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-colored material bonded to the front of a tooth. Veneers can change a tooth’s color, shape, length and position slightly, making them one of the most versatile cosmetic options. They can fix one problem tooth or transform a whole smile.

Dr. Jon Barnes offers porcelain veneers, including e.max and Empress materials, and composite (resin) veneers, as well as traditional veneers. Porcelain is very stain-resistant and is made in a dental lab; composite is sculpted directly on the tooth and is often less expensive. Dr. Barnes will help you weigh appearance, durability and budget.

Veneers can help with:

Veneers aren’t a fit for everyone. Teeth need healthy gums and enough enamel, and people who grind heavily may need a night guard. Larger alignment problems may be better treated with Invisalign first.

What to expect

1. Smile consultation

Talk about the look you want; Dr. Barnes examines your teeth, gums and bite and takes photos and X-rays.

2. Plan

Shade, shape and length are planned with you.

3. Preparation

For porcelain, a thin layer of enamel is usually removed so the veneer sits naturally; a digital scan goes to the dental lab, and you wear temporaries.

4. Bonding

At your follow-up visit, we check fit and color, lightly etch the tooth surface, bond each veneer with a strong adhesive and check your bite.

5. Aftercare

Normal brushing, flossing and checkups; a night guard if you grind.

Veneer cost, insurance & financing

The fee depends on the material and how many teeth you’re treating. Because veneers are usually cosmetic, insurance rarely covers them. You’ll get a written estimate before treatment. We accept cash, credit cards, CareCredit, Cherry payment plans and some in-house finance options. Current offer: $749 for one crown or veneer (single unit). Additional units are at our regular fee. Limit one unit per patient. Cash price only, not eligible with insurance participation. Excludes gold, full gold and high noble crowns. See Specials.

Veneer FAQs

They shouldn’t. Shade, shape and translucency are chosen to suit your face and nearby teeth, and you’ll approve the plan.

Porcelain veneers usually require removing a thin layer of enamel, so the tooth will always need a covering. Veneers may need replacing someday.

Many last for years with good care. Avoid biting hard objects and wear a night guard if you grind.

Porcelain is more stain-resistant and typically lasts longer; composite costs less and can often be done in one visit. Dr. Barnes will explain which suits your teeth.

Usually, yes. Veneers are matched to your surrounding teeth, so whitening first sets the shade.
