root canal

An oral injury or deep cavity can allow bacteria to access a tooth’s inner structure and cause serious harm. Once the tooth’s inner pulp has become infected, the tooth will begin to rot out from the inside and may eventually require extraction. A root canal procedure is a way to save the injured tooth so that most of its original structure can be retained.

Most patients who require root canal treatment will immediately know that something is very wrong with their tooth. There are several signs and symptoms to look for that could indicate that root canal treatment is needed. Some signs that a tooth’s inner structure has become infected include:

  • Intensive tooth pain
  • Temperature sensitivities
  • Tender and swollen lymph nodes
  • Abscesses on the gums

When providing root canal treatment, we start by taking digital X-rays of the tooth and the surrounding area. We then apply a special rubber sheet around the affected tooth to keep the tooth dry and prevent the infection from spreading while work is being done.

Once the tooth has been prepped, our team will use advanced dental equipment to access the inside of the tooth from the top. The entire inner structure will be carefully cleaned out so that no bacteria or decay remains. We will then apply an antimicrobial liquid to flush out the root canals all the way down to the jawbone. From there, medicated fillings will be applied to the tooth so that it regains its structure and integrity. We complete the process by applying a dental crown on top of the tooth. This will prevent any fractures or breakages from occurring.
