• Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is a medicine that works to numb the area where it is applied. By using this medicine, the patient will be much less likely to experience pain during treatment. Unlike other forms of sedation dentistry, a local anesthetic will have no effect on the patient’s mental awareness; however, some patients take comfort in knowing that they will not feel pain.
• Oral Sedation: Oral sedation dentistry comes in the form of a pill that the patient will swallow shortly before beginning treatment. This medicine will help the patient feel calm and relaxed. During treatment, the patient may feel less aware of their surroundings, but they will return to normal once the medicine wears off. Oral sedation is ideal for more intensive procedures and treatments where a deeper level of sedation is needed.
