By using clear brackets and tooth-colored nickel-titanium wires, Six Month Smiles apply low-force movement upon the teeth to help move them into the proper positioning. Although the treatment cannot provide complex corrections to a patient’s bite, it can be highly effective in helping a patient achieve straighter teeth and a better smile.
Some of the problems that can be corrected with Six Month Smiles include:
- Gaps and crowding
- Diastemas
- Minor bite problems
- Asymmetrical teeth
Once we have determined that a patient is a good candidate for Six Month Smiles, we will have their teeth fitted with clear brackets and tooth-colored archwires. We take great care to arrange these appliances in very precise positions so that they work as effectively as possible. The brackets will first be secured to the teeth using a dental bonding agent. From there, the tooth-colored nickel-titanium wires will be applied to the brackets and adjusted so that they can properly promote tooth movement.
Patients who receive Six Month Smiles will be required to visit our practice at least once a month to have their orthodontic appliance adjusted. This process involves configuring the wires so that they continue to move the teeth in the most effective and efficient manner possible. In most cases, this process will only take about 10 to 15 minutes. Most patients who use Six Month Smiles generally receive the results they desire after six months of use. A patient may also need to use a retainer following the completion of the treatment in order to prevent their teeth from reverting to their previous positioning.
