Oral Hygiene at home

Good oral hygiene is important for maintaining a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. Regular brushing and flossing can help to remove plaque, prevent tooth decay, and keep your breath fresh. At Buffalo Creek Dental, we believe that practicing good dental hygiene at home is an essential part of maintaining good oral health.

One of the main benefits of regular dental hygiene at home is that it can help to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on the teeth and can lead to the development of cavities. By brushing and flossing daily, you can remove plaque and prevent it from turning into tartar, which is much harder to remove and can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

Good oral hygiene can also help to keep your breath fresh. When you brush and floss regularly, you remove the bacteria and food particles that can cause bad breath. This can help you feel more confident when talking to others and can improve your overall oral health.

In addition to preventing tooth decay and keeping your breath fresh, regular dental hygiene at home can also help to prevent other oral health problems. For example, brushing and flossing can help to remove plaque from the surface of your teeth, which can reduce your risk of developing gum disease. Gum disease is an infection of the gums that can lead to tooth loss and other serious health problems if left untreated.

At Buffalo Creek Dental, we recommend that our patients brush their teeth at least twice a day and floss daily to maintain good oral hygiene. It’s also important to use the right tools and techniques when brushing and flossing to ensure that you’re removing as much plaque as possible.

To brush your teeth properly, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gum line and use a gentle circular motion to brush the outer surfaces of your teeth. Then, brush the inner surfaces of your teeth and your tongue to remove any bacteria and freshen your breath.

When flossing, use about 18 inches of floss and wrap it around your fingers so that you have a fresh section to use for each tooth. Gently guide the floss between your teeth, using a back and forth motion to remove plaque from the surfaces of your teeth and gums. Be sure to floss behind your back teeth as well, where plaque can easily build up.

In addition to regular brushing and flossing, it’s also important to visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and checkups. During a professional cleaning, your dentist or hygienist will remove any plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth, and will check for any signs of tooth decay or gum disease.

At Buffalo Creek Dental, we are dedicated to helping our patients maintain good oral hygiene and achieve their best possible oral health.
